Police Officers are the standard role in the LSPD:
Officer Is are fully qualified Police Officers at the end of their training period, completing a probationary period before being promoted up to Officer II.
Officer IIs are the most common rank in the LSPD, and act as a stepping point towards higher ranks and specialisations in the department. Primarily this is between specialist officer roles, Sergeant I and Detective I.
Officer IIIs are experienced officers continuing to work in patrol, usually in a specialist role, such as helicopter support or Field Training Officer. They are the only officer role that has an insignia, two chevrons like the detective I insignia.
Officer III+1s are Officer IIIs working in a specialised role that also qualifies them for a pay increase.
Detectives investigate crime scenes, gather and analyse evidence, interview witnesses and identify patterns linking crimes together. They hold the same legal powers as uniformed officers but work alongside them fulfilling a different role in investigating and preventing crime.
Detective Is investigate burglaries and vehicle thefts, interview witnesses and assist other detectives in larger cases.
Detective IIs investigate homicides and violent crimes.
Detective IIIs are automatically assigned to armed robberies and other scenes designated a Police Major Incident that require a detective investigation.
Sergeant I, Sergeant II and Captain II make up the supervisory roles of LSPD Major Crimes. Sergeant Is handle the field supervisor role, working with officers to maintain control of dynamic situations, as well actioning complaints made by members of the public.
Sergeant IIs handle daily administrative duties, with a watch commander overseeing everything that day from the station, with other sergeants also managing paperwork and overseeing groups of officers specifically.
The Captain of Major Crimes provides direction and stability for the department.
